OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The anchor from the USS Oklahoma battleship has found a new home.

The new USS Oklahoma Anchor Memorial was rededicated yesterday at its new location in Campbell Park in Oklahoma City.

Four-hundred twenty-nine men died when the Oklahoma was hit by four torpedoes in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December seventh, 1941, that led to World War Two.

The ship itself remains at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean but its anchor stood in downtown Oklahoma City for more than 40 years. Construction at the Skirvin Hotel forced the anchor to be moved to the park just north of downtown.

In addition to the anchor that weighs nearly 20,000 lbs, the memorial features a granite state historical marker engraved with a summary of the ship's life and a 30-foot lighted flagpole.

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation paid for the relocation and improvements to the memorial
