A controversial building project at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater has become a target for vandals.

Demolition is underway on what will become The OSU Cowboy's new athletic village. While some homes are being torn down, others are being robbed and vandalized.

In recent weeks, more than a half dozen homes have been burglarized. Others have been defaced with graffiti.

OSU spokesperson Carrie Hulsey-Greene: “obviously the messages painted on the properties were probably a message to be sent to OSU but most of these properties have already been resold and are going to be moved so they're actually not doing anything to OSU's property but to someone else’s, private individuals.”

University workers have painted over the graffiti. Stillwater Police and OSU Police will step up patrols in the area.

Seven suspects have been identified. Charges have been filed on five of them.
