A Green Country soldier who died in Afghanistan has been laid to rest.

20-year-old Corporal Derek Stanley was remembered as the guy who always fought for the underdog.

His mother says he'd only been in Afghanistan for four months when he was found shot while on guard duty.

Stanley's death is under investigation, but has been called non-combat related.
