The aftermath of a Tulsa home invasion robbery is kindness. A 96 year old woman was the victim on Thursday, but Friday, the community is responding.
News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan says it is always nice to have something positive to report after a crime. And a lot of people were touched by the story of Elvie Toliver, who opened her door to a robber and then was pushed down and hurt just for a few dollars. Elvie Toliver has never had so much company.
All Friday morning, people who had seen her story on the News on 6, came by to help. Some wanted to give her grocery money. Someone else dropped off flowers to brighten up her porch.
And another came by to give her something even more valuable, some time. Linda Trent and her grandson Divante sat and talked, and say they'll be back. "She is a beautiful person, a beautiful spirit, I love her mind, she has a lot to give, I have a lot to give to her."
The garden still needs weeding and watering and those greens need to be picked, but some thoughtful people have already reached out with a few other things - like a dress. It can replace the one she was wearing when she was robbed. It was stained with blood because the robber pushed her down and it left a gash on her head. "Yeah, I like my dress cause it's nice and cool, you know, they brought me flowers and the men brought me some money to buy me some food and I cried, but I wasn't supposed to cry, but I did, I did I couldn't help it."
Mrs. Toliver is 96 and spends most of her time at home in her wheelchair. She can't really get around much, but when someone robbed her, she found that help would come to her - and it's still coming.
Another lady has offered to help clean up her house and Mrs. Toliver couldn't be happier to find out how many people care about her.
She's made a lot of new friends.
