Tree experts say some of the storm damage caused by the midtown microburst earlier this week could have been avoided. Arborists say it is extremely important to do regular maintenance on trees.
Inspection can often uncover problems with the tree's root system or damage caused by pests or disease. That may lead to tree trimming or removing the tree altogether, before it falls and causes damage.
Ken Preaus with Preaus Landscape: "I would say the bulk of the damage that we've seen was preventable. It may have been preventable a long time ago, decades ago. But at some point mismanagement catches up with you and this is a perfect example."
Arborists say there are some trees to avoid. They say the faster a tree grows, the more likely there could be problems in the future.
