NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Oklahoman Carrie Underwood is a Dove Award winner.
The Checotah native who gained fame by winning American Idol picked up her first Dove Award Wednesday night for a country recorded song for her Number One hit "Jesus Take the Wheel."
The Dove Awards are chosen by members of the Gospel Music Association and honor excellence in the Christian music industry.
Chris Tomlin took home artist of the year, male vocalist and song of the year honors for "How Great Is Our God" during the 37th annual awards show. Natalie Grant was named top female vocalist.
