With 18 to 25,000 people going in and out of the airport on any given day, cleaning crews at the Will Rogers World Airport have been working hard to make sure things stay extra clean among concerns of the coronavirus.
“I think it is important for all of our cleaning staff to be stepping it up,” said Karen Carney, the airport spokesperson. “They have been working really hard. They understand people’s nervousness and the importance of preventing viral spread.”
The janitorial staff has been focusing on touch-point areas like chairs, armrests, elevator buttons and escalator rails. But Carney said there are things travelers can also be doing to help.
“We have told people to wash their hands and make sure that they aren’t around sick people,” said Carney. “These are really important things for people to do to supplement what cleaning crews are doing.”
Also, with thousands getting prepared to travel for spring break, the Oklahoma State Department of Education released a letter giving and outline of travel guidelines for students and staff.
In the letter it says if you travel to a level two or three country, as outlined by the CDC, you must be self-quarantined for 14 days before returning to school. While at home during that time it is suggested to check your temperature two times a day and watch for a cough along with trouble breathing.
“Take the advice of health officials,” said Carney. “So, pay attention to washing your hands and bring your own Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer with you when you travel.”
