Oklahoma City Public Schools Superintendent Sean McDaniel and their board held a virtual emergency meeting on Friday. They discussed what the end of their school year will look like now that school buildings across the state are closed.
The distance learning plans are supposed to be ready to go by April 6, when instruction is set to resume.
“They gave us 12 days to come up with a comprehensive plan to serve our kids,” said Superintendent Sean McDaniel.
McDaniel proposed a recommended plan to the board today. The plan included pushing out learning packets at the beginning of each week, online or actual copies that students can pick up at any of the feed sites.
But McDaniel does not want this material to be new learning concepts. He suggested that it be review material to strengthen what they learned earlier in the school year.
“Our mantra is “no harm done,” said McDaniel. “We will not be grading assignments when they are turned in unless it will help a student to cross the finish line to graduation or move to the next grade.”
The board didn’t vote on the distance learning plan Friday. They did vote to move the last day of school the May 8 and to pay all district employees until the end of their contract for this year.
McDaniel believes they will have a vote next week on the distance learning plan.
