Oklahoma City police saw a jump in domestic violence calls in the month of March, and they expect the numbers will continue to rise while the "stay at home" order is in place.
The most recent domestic-related incident happened Thursday morning near NW 10th Street and Classen Boulevard. Homicide detectives were called to the home to investigate after a victim was found with a fatal gunshot wound.
“They found the victim and actually the shooting suspect out in the front yard of the residence,” said Oklahoma City police Master Sgt. Gary Knight.
Angela Jimenez, 39, told officers she was attempting to give her longtime boyfriend, 47-year-old Henry Elix, first aid. Officers quickly learned the shooting was a result of domestic violence.

“At some point during the evening, an argument had broken out between the two,” said Knight. “It’s unclear what they were arguing about but they were definitely arguing.”
Police said the fight turned deadly when Jimenez pulled a gun and shot her boyfriend in the chest. Elix was taken to a local hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Neighbors did not want to go on camera with News 9, but said police were often called to the home for domestic-related issues.
Calls like the domestic shooting are keeping officers busy. Oklahoma City police officials reported a spike in domestic violence this year. Calls were up in the month of March by about 11% compared to the same time last year.
Police said the numbers are a result of more people staying home.
“Numbers are up a little bit over last year,” said Knight. “But that’s to be expected when people are cooped up together like they are now.”
Jimenez was interviewed by homicide detectives. She was later arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County jail on a first-degree murder complaint.
