There are 67 coronavirus (COVID-19) testing sites scattered across the state, with the newest one opening up on Thursday in Cleveland County.
A spokesperson for the Cleveland County Health Department said they knew this was coming, so they have been preparing the logistics of it for about two months.
“We have been meeting with partners and really gathering up our plans of what our systems and flow of traffic will be,” said Sara King. “Just making sure that we have safety in place for our staff and clients.”
Residents all through Cleveland County were able to drive up and get a test free of charge.
“They don’t need a doctor’s referral,” said Sara King. “They don’t need insurance, but we are aiming to get the part of the population that is experiencing symptoms or that has been around a known positive.”
While things got up and running at the site State Health Commissioner Gary Cox stopped by to see how things were going.
“I think you can tell by the long line of cars that the word is getting out,” said Cox.
Commissioner Cox said that the state is keeping track of data and hopes to be able to release some soon on when they expect the peak of COVID-19 to hit in Oklahoma.
The people who were tested on Thursday should expect to get their results in 24 to 48 hours.
