Tulsa Public Schools has worked hard throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic to make sure students still get the meals they need from school.

On Tuesday, superheroes answered the call to help feed students across the district.

Providing a daily meal to kids during a pandemic is a big undertaking, and cafeteria workers in Tulsa are being elevated to superhero status.

Cafeteria staff at Cooper Elementary were busy prepping meals for students, stepping in to help the community, just like a superhero.

Tuesday was Super Lunch at Tulsa Public Schools. The district wants to recognize the hardworking people that have been providing meals every week for students who rely on them to eat.

Staff and students were encouraged to dress up like their favorite superhero when picking up their meals. Community Outreach Coordinator Heather Steele wanted to make sure the staff knows they make a difference.

"This kind of gives them some excitement too, this is kind of a tribute to them to thank them for all the meals that they've been serving. We've done about 800,000 meals so far, so it's a huge thanks to our employees for everything that they've done for our community," said Steele.

She said providing a nutritious meal to students right now is an important part of at-home learning. She said it gives the students a sense of routine during this uncertain time.

"Absolutely it does bring normalcy. They're used to getting that breakfast and lunch every day at school so to have that when they're learning at home is definitely part of that routine," Steele said.

Even though the costumes come off for Wednesday, students across Tulsa won't forget the superheroes watching out for them.
