Neighbors are coming together to support Officer Aurash Zarkeshaun and his family while he recovers in the hospital after being shot two weeks ago during a traffic stop.
Neighbors said they call him Officer Z and said he's the kind of person you want living next door.
"We just got to be great neighbors. I mow the back for everybody back here behind our houses and I just got to know him," said Darrell Macey.
Macey said he and his son helped Aurash move into his home about five months ago while Aurash was in the Tulsa Police academy.
"My youngest son is the same age as he is and it hits close to home you know because you never know when something like this is going to happen," said Macey.
Macey said he spoke with Aurash the night he was shot.
"I said hey Z what's your plans with the city. He said I want to work my way through the ranks and I want to be an undercover officer. Five hours later he was shot," said Macey.
Neighbors have placed a sign outside Aurash's home and they created bumper stickers in support of Officer Z. They also collected gift cards and home-cooked meals for Aurash and his family.
Macey said their neighborhood is ready for Z to be back home and have his patrol unit parked in the driveway again.
"They would ask me ‘where is his car.’ I said it's at the police station because he's the officer that got shot. They just start crying because that car represented a lot right here in our addition," said Macey.
