Governor Kevin Stitt said that he tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday afternoon.

Stitt made the announcement from his home during a joint press conference with Interim Commissioner of Health Lance Frye on Wednesday.

Stitt said that he "feels fine" and does not exhibit many symptoms other than feeling "a kind of achy cold."

The Oklahoma State Health Department reported Tuesday that there were 993 new cases of COVID-19 and four additional virus-related deaths.

As of Tuesday, the 993 new cases are the largest number of new positive cases statewide.

Stitt said he is the only member of his family to test positive for the virus. His wife and children have all tested negative.

When asked if he regretted not wearing a mask at public events, Stitt said he doesn't "second guess anything."

Despite his positive test, Stitt said he does not plan to issue a statewide mask mandate.

Stitt is the first U.S. governor to test positive for COVID-19.
