A man is recovering Wednesday night after he went through a car's windshield as he was trying to stop someone he says, was trying to break into his semi-truck and steal his tools.
Ian Wilhelm said he was helping a customer back out to his truck Wednesday afternoon, when he witnessed the event.
"I saw a person crawling through the driver side window to grab some stuff out of his truck," said witness Ian Wilhelm, "By the time he got down and got into his car, I held onto the door. As soon as he took off, I let go."
"The owner of the semi, stepped in front of the vehicle to attempt to stop the vehicle, the vehicle sped up and hit the owner of the semi," said Tulsa Police Sgt Brian Collum.
Witnesses said the semi owner jumped and turned before he was hit, so he fell through the windshield back first. A woman was in the passenger seat and the semi owner landed on her lap. Police said that is when the driver of the car got out and ran.
"The female was very intoxicated on some unknown drug so she can't hardly walk, so she is getting transported," said Collum.
Officers said the semi owner was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. Witnesses said they hate to see someone stealing from hard working people, especially now when many families have been hit hard financially due to COVID-19.
"Just costing people money," said Wilhelm, "You just witness this stuff every day. It is sad."
