COVID-19 has forced many nonprofits to cancel fundraisers, making raising money challenging.

United Way supports 59 agencies around town, including Family and Children Services. Their mission is to adjust accordingly and do whatever it takes to provide for those in need.

Krista Hemme is United Way’s Chief Marketing Officer and said despite COVID-19, people and businesses around the community have stepped up to lend a hand. Due to social distancing, Hemme said they’ve focused more on inspiring people in a virtual environment, creating videos, infographics and digital materials. She said United Way’s goal is to reach as many people as they can and inspire them to give to make up for cancelled fundraisers.

Christine Marsh is a Senior Director at Family and Children’s Services and said they’ve also had to move to a virtual format utilizing things like zoom meetings and reaching out to the community digitally.

Marsh said the community’s feedback has helped ease adjusting during these tough times. Hemme and Marsh both want Tulsans to know that no amount is too small and they’re here for you.

“I think a lot of times as individuals we feel like we don’t have enough to give and so why try, and I would really encourage people to think that it is everybody giving that is what makes it enough,” said Marsh.

“Know that we are here for you.. and we’re going to do everything we can to make sure that you still have a roof over your head.. and you have to give to your children during this incredibly tough time,” said Hemme.
