Tulsa police are investigating a shooting after one person was found dead inside a home near Admiral and Yale during the early morning of July 23.
Police said Joseph Tyrell Williams has been arrested in connection to the shooting.
Officers said Williams was in a dispute with the victim. Officers said the victim was confronted because he had supposedly stolen Williams' car.
Police said they received a call from a woman who said her sister was at the house the night before. They said she told them her sister sounded very upset but wouldn’t elaborate on what was wrong. Officers said the sister and two other women drove to the house out of concern. Police said they told them the upset woman was gone when they arrived, but they soon discovered a man shot to death inside the house.
Officers said they were able to find Williams in a car with a woman at a nearby Whataburger. According to police, the woman later told officers that Williams held her at gunpoint until she got into a car with him.
Records show Williams has been in and out of prison in Oklahoma since 2010 for stealing, drugs, having guns as a felon, stolen vehicles and assaulting a police officer. Recordsalso show Williams was released from prison in last October after serving 4 years of a 12 year sentence for drug trafficking and put on probation.
Police said thanks to the cooperation of the people at the scene, they were able to arrest Williams so quickly.
Tulsa Police Officer Danny Bean said, "we are beneficial and lucky that we have citizens in the community that we do have in Tulsa. They don't like these crimes either. They work with us, whether they remain anonymous or they come straight forward and help. That really helps keep our crimes as minimal as we have them."
Police have not yet released the name of the victim. They said Williams is wanted on a warrant in Arkansas for drugs.
