Update: Cherokee Nation Child Development Center in Tahlequah will reopen on August 7.

The Cherokee Nation announced they are temporarily closing the Child Development Center in Tahlequah as of Wednesday after an employee tested COVID-19 positive.

Parents have been notified of the closing and the Cherokee Nation’s Public Health Team is working to determine those that would have been in contact with the positive case.

Chief of Staff Todd Enlow said, “COVID cases are on the rise in our communities and we must all be aware and vigilant at all times to protect against this spread. We are now taking immediate steps to close the center for one week to thoroughly clean classrooms and take all necessary safety precautions.”

The center will be closed until Friday August 7.
