Tulsa Man In Custody After Police Pursuit

Tulsa Police say a man in custody after he led officers on a chase overnight.

Police say they attempted to stop James Valdez after the tag on the car he was driving checked back to a different car. They say Valdez and his female passenger took off, running several red lights and even driving into oncoming traffic. A TPD helicopter continued following the car until the two abandoned it in a neighborhood near 31st and Memorial. Officers were able to track down both suspects and they were taken into custody a block away from the car. Officers say while the two were in custody Valdez slipped out of his handcuffs and the female who was in the car with him tried to help him open the door so he could run away.

Officers say they also found a bag of meth in Valdez's pocket. Valdez was booked on complaints of eluding, obstruction and possession of a controlled substance.
