Fire officials said a family and their pet were struck by a vehicle while walking Thursday night in Del City.

According to the Del City Fire Department, a metro grandmother was walking with her grandson and their dog from a Braum’s near Southeast 44th Street and Sunnylane.

Both the Del City Fire Department and the Oklahoma City Fire Department responded to the scene.

The grandmother was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The juvenile suffered cuts and scrapes. He was treated at the scene and released.

The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene following the accident. He told News 9 when he saw the dog it was too late to avoid hitting the family.

“I saw the boy run, and then she just stepped right out in front of me. There was nothing I could do. There was nothing I could do,” said Mark Flowers, driver.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as they become available.
