Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty against a man accused of shooting two Tulsa police officers in June, killing one of them.

According to court documents, David Ware is accused of “knowingly creat[ing] a great risk of death.” They also stated that “the murder of Sgt. Johnson was committed for the purpose of avoiding or preventing a lawful arrest or prosecution.”

The deadly shooting that killed Sgt. Craig Johnson and injured Officer Aurash Zarkeshann happened on June 29, 2020 during a traffic stop.

Ware has been charged with murder, shooting with intent to kill and possession of a gun as a felon, obstructing an officer, and unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute.
