A multimillion-dollar bridge repair project is starting on the Pensacola dam bridge on Monday after multiple delays due to lack of funding.
The Pensacola dam bridge in Mayes county will be closing for extensive repairs and won’t open back up until the summer of 2021.
The $14 million rehab project led by the grand river dam authority is in place to repair the deck and bridge structure and the two spillway bridges.
State highway 28 both East and westbound lanes between Langley and Disney will be closed at the dam through the spring of 2021. Once that part of the project is complete, the highway at the spillways will then close for their repairs.
The detour turns a one-and-a-half-mile drive into a 26-mile loop to get around the construction via highway 20.
The entire project is set to be done summer 2021.
ODOT said the same detours will be used for both phases of the project in order to keep things moving smoothly.
