This week is Gold Star Families Remembrance Week, a time to honor the families of fallen members of the Armed Forces.

A Tulsa veteran is working to raise awareness of Gold Star families through video.

A video made in partnership with Gold Star families across the country, starts out with the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner, and continues with families reciting the lyrics of the national anthem.

Lt. JG Arthur Rule is recognized in the video. He was a Navy pilot during World War II.

"He was killed February 15, 1953, and my brother was seven, I was six, and my sister was four months old. That's just our story,” David Rule said.

David Rule, an Air Force veteran, is Arthur’s son.

"I have just a few memories of being six years old, just tiny memories of me and him being together. So I do have that, but some families don't have anything,” David said.

He said Gold Star families from all over the country participated in the video, which Lisandro Boccacci edited.

"Me and David talk about how hard it is for people to share their stories," Boccacci said. "For a lot of people, this was, just to share that picture, was hard for them to d."

Their goal is to make more videos that honor the men and women who gave their lives serving in the military, and their families.

David is also working to get a monument that honors Gold Star families to Tulsa, through the Hershel "Woody" Williams Medal of Honor Foundation.

It would cost about $100,000 to get a monument here. So far he has helped raise about $6,000 and hopes one day it will stand at Centennial Park, honoring Gold Star families.

"It's just for the families, the mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, wives and husbands of the fallen soldier,” Rule said.

Gold Star Families Remembrance Week is recognized both federally and locally as the week leading up to Gold Star Mother’s Day, which is the last Sunday in September.
