OU Adopts Test-Optional Admissions Policy For Next 5 Years

Standardized tests like the ACT and SAT will now be optional for students applying to OU through 2025.  

The University of Oklahoma announced they will implement a new admissions policy where standardized tests will be optional for the next five years.

This move will make OU the first public university in Oklahoma to adopt a test-optional admissions process for multiple years.

“Looking to the future, we view operating as a test-optional institution as a necessary and important move to increasing access to the state’s flagship institution, and this pilot program allows for that consideration,” said Jeff Blahnik, senior associate vice president for the Division of Enrollment Management and executive director for the Office of Admissions and Recruitment. “Test scores can be a helpful tool in determining readiness, but they are not the only measure that projects that."

The University said students are still encouraged to submit scores as they would help for accurate course placement. The University said that since 2012, they have used a holistic admissions process, considering four components: academics, activities and engagement, personal essay and letters of recommendation. They also said that scores could be used to improve admissions and scholarship, but the University will consider all students holistically.
