Tulsans joined people across the nation in protest after a decision by a Kentucky grand jury not to charge anyone with the death of Breonna Taylor.

A few dozen people held a candlelight vigil Wednesday night in the Greenwood district to make sure their voices were heard.

Taylor was a Louisville woman shot and killed by police who were serving a search warrant connected to her ex-boyfriend. The case sparked protests across America for months.

Wednesday, the Kentucky Attorney General announced no charges would be filed directly related to Taylor’s death, but one former police officer was charged with conduct that created a danger leading to Taylor’s death.

On Wednesday night, Tulsans laid candles and flowers at the base of the Black Wall Street memorial, and took turns telling the crowd about their own personal stories

They said they've had enough and want positive change to happen, demanding justice for racial problems in America.

The organizer of the vigil, Tykebrean Cheshier, is the woman who helped put together some of the peaceful rallies in, and around, Tulsa earlier this summer.

Cheshier said it's frustrating and it hurts. She said they still have a lot of work to do.

"When we say Black Lives Matter, we're not talking about an organization, we're talking about we want to matter just like everyone else in this country,” Chesier said. “We want to matter like the founding fathers did, we want to be held on that same pedestal, and make sure that we are having a seat at the table, that's it.”

Cheshier said she believes an important part of making change happen is by rallying people to vote. She said people should support officials who support black lives.
