Food on the Move is handing out free meals and partnering with Ascension St. John to give free flu shots to those in need.
These hot meals are being given out every Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the OSU Tulsa "A" parking Lot. Food on the Move gives out hot meals and fresh produce to those who need a little extra help to make it through the week.
On September 29 only, the team has partnered with Ascension St. John to also offer free flu shots for all adults who would like one as well. Chris walker with food on the move says North Tulsa is known as a food desert, meaning there isn’t a quick and easy way for everyone to get groceries, so he says they love trying to help as much as they can.
“It’s a positive feeling, but it ups your spirits and makes you want to go harder and stronger every time,” Walker says. “Not just seeing smiles on their faces, but knowing when they get home it’s doing more than just the smile you saw there in the passing of getting produce.”
The flu shots will be given in lot "A" near where the food is being handed out. To get food, simply pull up in your car and someone will hand you the items. To get a shot, you can drive to the easily marked area and the employees will instruct you from there.
Monica Barczak with Ascension St. John says staying protected during flu season is more important now than ever due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are really trying to reach adults without insurance, maybe they can’t afford the copay for a flu shot or don’t have insurance, we want to make sure they are staying healthy too,” Barczak says.
If you aren’t able to make it to the event ton Tuesday, Food on the Move hosts this event every Tuesday evening at OSU Tulsa.
