The Tulsa Housing Authority is extending its deadline for Emergency Rental Assistance with a goal to give as much assistance as possible to Tulsa County residents.

The Emergency Rental Assistance program is funded by the federal CARES Act. It started in August and was set to end. However, with COVID-19 still impacting folks' finances, the Tulsa Housing Authority said an extension was necessary.

"We certainly didn't want any time limit to be a trouble for them getting them the assistance they need," Ginny Hensley said.

Ginny Hensley, Vice President of Communications at the Tulsa Housing Authority, said applicants may be eligible for up to $3,000 to cover overdue rent. Henley said most of all their applicants so far were referred to the program by their landlords.

Tenants apply for the program online and then provide their application number to their landlord. From there, the landlord provides some documentation via the application portal. Hensley said the application is then reviewed and the amount of rent assistance is determined.

“You have to demonstrate that your income has been reduced or otherwise has been specifically impacted by COVID-19,” Hensley said.

Hensley said there's no plan to extend the assistance after the end of October. To find the application, visit the website here.
