Captain Jeff Sewell with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol will be laid to rest on Thursday after becoming the first state trooper to die of COVID-19.

The obituary for Captain Jeff Sewell said his service will be held at the Atoka football field at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
According to his family, Sewell became sick in the last week of August and tested positive for COVID-19.
Sewell went into the hospital in early September after having trouble breathing and he never came home.
Captain Sewell's daughter said he did not have any health problems and he was only 20 months from retirement after serving more than 20 years with Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Several troopers will serve as the pallbearers at Thursday’s funeral.
After the ceremony, he will be laid to rest at Green Meadows Cemetery in Atoka.
