Update: Officials have identified the victim as 32-year-old Phillip Luster.
A man has died after a shooting in a neighborhood west of Tulsa near the Katy Trail.
Tulsa Police said children were at the home, near Admiral and 36th West Avenue, at the time and one of them went for help.
Lieutenant Brandon Watkins said there were a handful of kids inside the house and one of them, the victim's three-year-old child, ran to a nearby store. He asked the people there to call 911, saying that his father had been shot.
"A small child ran quite a way away from here and alerted some people up at a nearby convenience store, who called police," Watkins said.
Police said relatives came to pick up the children to take care of them. Watkins said the crime scene team is still sorting through all the evidence.
"We're looking at the neighborhood, trying to determine what evidence we have and what witnesses we might have, so this is a lengthy process and it's going to take a while," Watkins said.
Watkins said officers are talking to neighbors and this shooting doesn't appear to be random. Watkins said they have a suspect in mind, but don't want to release that information this early in the investigation.
"Biggest concern is making sure we work this right, and that we angle toward someone we can arrest and see that justice is served," Watkins said.
Tulsa Police said they are working with the FBI and Creek Nation Lighthorse since the victim is a tribal citizen and the murder happened on the Creek Reservation.
