The Jenks Public Schools Board of Education opened the floor for public comment Monday night on the topic of masks in class.
“The mask policy approved by the board in August is working, and should not be removed,” Jenks Senior Maya Chandwane said. “Our school is correctly observing the city of Tulsa's mask mandate. Let us not abandon reason and practicality because of simple misconceptions."
“We have this universal policy that forced upon children, many of which have medical conditions that contra-indicate the wearing of masks,” Dr. Jim Meehan said.
Jenks requires students in 3rd grade and up to wear masks. In a statement, Jenks Public Schools said it has no intention of changing their mask policy.
You can read the full statement from Jenks Public Schools below.
The mask requirement at Jenks Public Schools remains in place. All employees, students in grades 3-12, and students on buses, are required to wear a mask. The JPS administration has no intention of modifying the mask policy. Exemptions to the policy are available for students who may require special accommodations. If you would like to learn more about these exemptions, please contact your student’s site principal.
The topic of masks was only brought up tonight at the JPS Board of Education meeting by members of the public. The JPS Board did not vote or take any action regarding masks. Because JPS Board meetings are open to the public, citizens are permitted to speak to the Board on any topic of their choosing as long as they follow the Board policy for Hearing of the Public or Public Comments.
