TPS Board Of Education President Tests Positive For COVID-19

The president of the Tulsa Public Schools Board of Education announced she has tested positive for COVID-19.

Stacey Woolley said in a Facebook post that she and her husband tested positive for the virus. She said she and her husband are staying in quarantine.

“As the family of a first responder, COVID-19 looms large in our household as a ‘when,’ not an ‘if,’ so we are abundantly cautious in our COVID-19 prevention rules and routines,” Woolley said. “Despite our best efforts, my husband and I both have tested positive for COVID-19.”

Woolley said she was grateful she was able to quickly manage contact tracing, as she and her family have been rigorous with their COVID-19 safety. Woolley urged people to wear their mask, wash their hands and keep at least six feet from others.

“Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, my family and I have followed an important principle: assume that you have COVID-19 and behave accordingly. We avoid unnecessary outings to public places, we wear our masks, we practice safe distancing, and we are expert handwashers. As the family of a first responder, COVID-19 looms large in our household as a “when,” not an “if,” so we are abundantly cautious in our COVID-19 prevention rules and routines. Despite our best efforts, my husband and I both have tested positive for COVID-19. I am feeling fine so far, although I do have a cough. My family and I will be in quarantine for the next 14 days at minimum.

I am sharing my COVID-19 experience because I believe that we owe it to our community and to our children to model the behaviors that will ultimately turn the trajectory of this pandemic around. Because my family has been rigorous with our COVID-19 safety, I was able to make quick work of contact tracing. I have much to be worried about, but I am NOT concerned that I may have inadvertently infected a stranger through a careless interaction.

In my household, with my husband’s job, COVID-19 was always a likelihood – but that does not have to be the case for others. In a meeting with educators yesterday ‪evening, Dr. Bruce Dart said: “human behavior is our best tool to fight this virus.” I believe that wholeheartedly. We all know the behaviors that will help stop the spread: wearing your mask, washing your hands, and watching your distance.

And if you think 6 feet of safe distancing is good, 10 feet is even better!”
