The Oklahoma Caring Vans are fighting the flu as the season begins by traveling around Tulsa and giving out free flu shots.

This year, the group hopes to give around 4,000 flu shots.

The program gives free flu shots to kids, who are uninsured, Medicaid eligible or American Indian. The van is a resource for kids who may not be able to get a flu shot in a traditional clinic setting.

Oklahoma Caring Van Specialist Fernando Guillen said he encourages everyone to get a flu shot this year, especially with the coronavirus pandemic. Guillen said they were also giving out shots to adults.

"It's really important to receive the flu shot every year, but this year is most important because we have something else that is worrying the population right now," Guillen said.

The group plans to make more stops through the end of the month.

You can find a list of their scheduled stops in October below.

Friday, October 16: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Supermercado Morelos 5147 S. Peoria Ave.
