The family of a man mauled to death by dogs is struggling to believe he’s gone.

They said Curtis Wickham did nothing wrong and didn’t deserve to die. His family said he was a good man, always putting himself before others, and they wonder why he had to die like this.

"I'll never get another happy birthday, or I love you or anything from him because of some dogs," said his sister, Curstie Wickham.

Tulsa Police said three dogs attacked and killed Curtis at his ex-girlfriend's home Thursday.

The girlfriend said Wickham was trying to break in and her dogs were protecting her, her daughter, and her current boyfriend.

Curtis's family said he was only there to get his phone back and he was not trying to break in. In fact, they said he had just been four days earlier.

"His phone was stolen along with the shoes off his feet," said Curstie. "He loved her little girl and he wouldn't have come there with ill intention."

The family said the girlfriend's neighbors told them the dogs have been a problem before.

"Neighbors said they killed their animals and chased someone down the street and attacked the neighbor behind her," Curstie said.

Curtis' mother Vickie Cummings said it was a senseless attack that should not have happened.

"My son was murdered by some dogs, but nobody helped him," said Vickie.

The family said Curtis was a kind and selfless man who loved NASCAR and the Raiders. They said he loved his community in West Tulsa, and he loved his family deeply.

"My son was not a saint by no means, but he would never hurt anyone. I will get justice for my son, period," Vickie said.

Police are investigating this case as a homicide. The family is waiting on the autopsy report. The dogs were taken by animal control.
