A couple Memorial High School students helped baseball and softball coaches load up boxes of food into hundreds of cars at the school Monday.
180 Disaster Relief sponsored the food distribution event. They started the morning with 500 boxes, but these quickly went out to families in need.
Todd Henshaw, Memorial's head baseball coach, was in charge of today's distribution. He said the food distribution was different from the TPS meal giveaways because Monday's boxes of food had more produce and food for several meals. Each family also received a gallon of milk.
He said they posted about the distribution on social media saying they would begin the giveaway at 9 a.m. on Monday, but starting at 8 a.m. they already had a line of cars waiting.
"Man, these times are odd and it's just obviously better to do something good and just try to share with what we have and try to make somebody's day a bit more meaningful," said Henshaw.
