The plans for a community garden are coming together. Friday morning was the ground breaking for Project Common Ground near MLK and the Gilcrease Expressway.

"We'll have the agriculture program set towards the back. We will have more of a headquarters toward the front. For us to be able to sell our stuff,” said Nikesha Tate.

Tate and Dean Finley are the founders of the non-profit Not Forgotten Children and own the piece of land where Project Common Ground will soon be open for the community. Tate and Finley said Common Ground will be a place for families and kids to come together to learn about gardening, cooking, and even taking care of animals once the project is up and going.

“Kids want more than sports. Everybody is not an athlete and they have difference interests. And we thought agriculture could be good, something they could learn. It's broad and something you don't see too many city kids getting involved in,” said Finley.

The acre of land sits near the Gilcrease Expressway and MLK and is soon going to be an area for families to learn about agriculture and more.

"Different programs for kids to be able to learn just simple daily things like as far as cooking, cleaning, and growing your own fruits and vegetables,” said Tate.
