Oklahomans Turn Out For Final Day Of Early Voting

Early voting for the 2020 general election closed on Saturday afternoon.

First-time voter Christian Flowers did not mind standing in line for five hours in hopes of making his vote count.

"For me to get this ‘I voted’ sticker, it had a big impact on my heart,” Flowers said. "I was going to go in there and come out happy because I decided to vote for the first time.”

Flowers cast his first vote with his sister and friends.

"I woke them up and said, ‘Let's go. We have to go vote,’” Flowers said. “November 3rd is going to be crazy. We can either wait in line or do it right now.” 

Terry Snow has voted in every election since he was 18 and still believes this is the most important thing he can do.

"If you think about it, I mean, the right to vote is a precious thing around the world,” Snow said. “I take it very seriously.”

The turnout for early voting broke records as of 5 p.m. Saturday. The Oklahoma State election board said 164,000 people cast their vote via in-person voting while 264,000 have voted by mail.

As for Oklahoma County, over 15,000 people voted early in-person while over 82,000 voted by mail.

The ballot must be received by their county election board by 7 p.m. on Election Day to be counted as for mail-in voting.

"It's one man, one vote, right? It's worth it," said Snow. 

"Get out there. Make a difference. It doesn't matter who you vote for just as long as you are out there to be heard in the world we live in," Flowers said. 

Polls on Tuesday will be open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
