A 9-year old boy who was trapped in a wrecked truck for more than two hours, got a special visit from the first responders who rescued him.
Tulsa Firefighters surprised Jaden Wells and his sister Friday at school to check up on them and give them some gifts.
Firefighters said it took three "Jaws of Life" tools, several firefighters and two full hours to rip the truck apart and get Jaden out of there. Crews said Jaden was tough.
"The glove box was sitting here right on my leg and it hurt my foot was stuck under all of the stuff,” said Jaden.
Jaden wasn't alone, because Tulsa Firefighter Jeff Long crawled into the truck and stayed with Jaden the entire time.
"He held my hands and I said, man you just bear down and hold my hands when something hurts,” said Long.
"It was kind of scary,” said Jaden. “He put this rag on my head and then we were talking about like, don't look at my knee and talking about baseball, and stuff like that."
Long said his son is Jaden's age, and they play baseball at the same parks, so the two connected immediately.
"We got some easy things to talk about. We talked about baseball and football and really tried to get his mind away from the wreck itself,” said Long.
Long said they had to rip all four doors off the truck to get Jaden out. Luckily, he only has a fractured foot.
"He was just a trooper about it. He's the toughest kid I can remember coming across,” said Long.
Long said it's not every day they get to reconnect with people they rescue. He said this case, was extra special.
“This is why I've become a fireman,” said Long.
