Family and friends gathered Sunday night after 49-year-old Percilla Cheadle lost her life Wednesday. Cheadle was hit by a truck while crossing the street in northwest Oklahoma City.

“I don't understand how this could have happened,” friend Heather Deleon said. “I really don't. She's walked that road a million times.”

Four days after the accident, dozens gathered for a vigil where the incident occurred near North Rockwell Avenue and Melrose Lane. One friend of Cheadle said she was just down the street from her home when the accident happened.

“And I called her husband and he was sitting right there,” Deleon said. “They live right here. He didn’t even know.”

According to a police report, Cheadle was crossing North Rockwell Avenue when she was hit by a small Chevy truck. After the collision, police said the truck continued driving and left the scene. Cheadle was then transported to a local hospital where she later died.

“Nothing’s going to be the same without her,” family friend Tae Rowe said. “She is truly going to be missed and my heart goes out to her husband and her children.”

Police have not reported any arrests. No suspect description at this time.

Those close to Cheadle said they were overwhelmed with the amount of support from the community.

“We just wanted to do this to show that she was loved and that she will never be forgotten,” Deleon said.

Officials said this incident is still under investigation.
