Bartlesville Public Schools is facing a shortage of bus drivers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to district leaders, they have reached a point where they will have to begin consolidating bus routes to make up for the shortage.

Superintendent Chuck McCauley said that they came up with a contingency plan for dealing with staff shortages such as this, but this is the first time they have had to put the plan in place.

"Even on a good day with us, even before the pandemic, you know, bus drivers were always a bit of a challenge anyway so we're definitely seeing that impact now," said McCauley.

The district is also facing a shortage of substitute teachers and aides.
