The strong front that dropped our temperatures yesterday is well east of the state this morning, but a surface ridge of high pressure will allow for temps near freezing for some locations for the next few hours with clear sky and light wind. Veterans Day will be very pleasant, a 6-star weather day with highs reaching the upper 50s to lower 60s along with light north winds shifting to the south later this afternoon. The next in a series of upper-level disturbances will bring a weak wind shift into the state Thursday with a few sprinkles Thursday evening across far southeastern OK, but our next chance for impactful weather arrives Friday into Saturday with increasing rain and thunder chances. We may be in a holding pattern for a few hours Saturday morning with scattered showers and storms in some locations. Once this system exits the area early Saturday morning, the rest of the weekend appears fantastic with dry conditions and sunshine. Sunday will be the best weekend day, but even Saturday afternoon should be good.
The progressive upper airflow will remain active for at least the next 10 days, maybe longer. This pattern should bring storm systems nearby at least every 3 to 4 days. The westerlies have been shifting slightly south but not enough to bring any major cold air southward at this point. Additionally, the main flow doesn’t show any signals of buckling and allowing any strong northwest flow patterns to establish yet across the plains states. This means our weather will be characterized with periodic frontal intrusions of chilly weather but followed by return flows of southerly winds and warming temp profiles.
A sneak-peek into the following week should also feature much of the same pattern. We should be dealing with at least one, possibly two systems for the week, but it’s impossible to know with any certainty at this point.
Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
