The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is starting their second annual Christmas Toy Drive on Friday to give gifts to kids who are in the hospital or in need.

The CCSO deputies will be at the Tahlequah Walmart off of Highway-51 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. They are asking for toys that suit children ages toddler to 13-years-old that are brand new, unopened, and not wrapped.

They will also accept cash donations for people who do not want to shop for a gift.

CCSO Sheriff Jason Chennault said it is a great feeling knowing that they are able to make a child happy after they have been sick or their family is in need.

“We aren’t just doing it for Cherokee County kids, we are doing it for anyone in need,” Chennault said. “It’s just something we enjoy doing, it was very successful last year and we are looking to make Christmas a little better for whoever we can.”

Chennault said that last year they had a whole truckload of donations they took to the hospitals and they hope to not only meet that same volume but exceed it this year.
