A handful of people in Broken Arrow gathered outside City Hall Tuesday evening to call for a citywide mask requirement.

Organizers said they rang 52 bells to represent the 52 Broken Arrow residents who have died from COVID-19.

A vote on masks was not scheduled for Tuesday’s city council meeting, but it’s something this group wants the city to enact.

“We really just want our community to be safe and healthy, and to be able to shop and go to school and be healthy with masks on,” Kasey St. John said.

Broken Arrow Mayor Craig Thurmond said it isn’t likely the city will require masks. He said most of Broken Arrow’s cases are spread by family members and not among the community.
