The Broken Arrow City Council is expected to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic during its meeting on Monday. Part of the discussion includes a possible mask resolution.

The mask resolution would not require masks to be worn in Broken Arrow, but instead, encourage people that they should be wearing them.

It would also encourage businesses that they should require them.

Diane Jones visited Broken Arrow from Texas with her daughters.

Jones said she kept her mask on, but it didn't bother her that they weren't required in the places she was visiting.

"I didn’t realize that, that everyone wasn’t wearing masks,” Jones said. “Where we live, you just put your mask on when you go in the store. You take it off when you come out.”

The resolution would allow the Broken Arrow Police Department to help a business if a customer was refusing to wear a mask if one was required. It also recommends Broken Arrow residents to keep six feet apart.

Jones' daughter, Amie Howard, said the lack of masks didn't stop her from shopping and dining in the city.

"I think more people need to, in order for this to be taken care of,” Howard said. “But it didn’t cause a red flag and make me leave the store because people didn’t have their masks on because I know how to be cautious and take care of my needs.”

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. Monday at Broken Arrow City Hall.
