Broken Arrow city officials are asking residents to do their part in helping slow the spread of COVID-19 after a mask resolution was struck down by the city council on Monday.

In a one to four vote, the Broken Arrow City Council voted against a resolution that only recommended people wear masks. The resolution was not a mandate and suggested businesses and churches put together their own mask policy.

Similar to surrounding cities, the resolution would have allowed the police department to back up a business in the event someone refused to wear a mask despite the mandate.

Most people in the city spoke out against the resolution.
