Welcome to Thanksgiving. Temps will remain chilly this morning before rebounding into the lower 60s with sunshine and southeast winds near 15 to 22 mph. Some patchy yet dense fog will be underway for the next few hours across far northeastern and eastern OK. Some temps in the upper 20s to lower 30s in these areas may allow a slick spot or two on elevated surfaces. Otherwise, today looks great. Another system quickly nears the area later this afternoon and brings a weak front across the area later tonight. Moisture is limited and this boundary should clear most of the area with no precipitation, but a few small showers may develop across extreme southeastern OK or northeast Tx with this boundary. Friday appears in fine shape, but with a few clouds in the sunshine, gusty north winds and cooler weather. Afternoon highs will be in the mid-50s tomorrow before another storm system quickly nears the area Saturday evening into Sunday morning bringing rain chances back to the area. Most of Saturday appears dry, but we continue with rain chances for late Saturday evening into pre-dawn Sunday as a closed upper-level low moves near and across part of the region. Sometimes in this pattern, wintry precipitation can occur directly under the colder air aloft, but at this point, any mentions for snow or sleet should be confined to far Western OK Saturday evening. Obviously, this is something we will watch closely over the next few days.
As the low passes east, another strong trough drops down the amplifying northwest flow pattern and brings colder air across the Missouri Valley making an appearance across Oklahoma Sunday into early next week. We may also have another glancing blow of cold air for the middle of next week with some hard freeze potential for a few mornings.
Highs Sunday afternoon may stay near 50 but with strong northwest winds from 15 to 30 mph. Monday morning starts in the upper 20s and lower 30s with highs in the mid-40s along with sunshine and gusty northwest winds. Tuesday morning may be the coldest of the season for the metro with temps in the mid to upper 20s with highs reaching 50 by afternoon along with sunny conditions. The pattern is unsettled for late next week with another closed low nearing the region.
Thanks for reading the Thanksgiving morning weather discussion and blog.
