A 12-year-old girl from Claremore is hosting her own pet fundraiser to collect supplies and raise money for the Claremore Animal Shelter. She's also encouraging people to adopt pets.
Amaeli Foster said her rescue dog Asha inspired her to do this fundraiser, and she wants all animals to have a loving home.
"She was found in an alley, and so she had it pretty rough, but now she's not as skinny as she was, she's got a warm bed, she's got plenty of toys," Amaeli said.
Asha has been with Amaeli's family for about a year. She said seeing how happy she is now made her want to do something to help all other animals.
"We are collecting donations and giving them to the Claremore Animal Shelter, and we're also helping animals find homes," Amaeli said.
With help from her little brother Collin, Amaeli is collecting supplies and raising money for the shelter. She said she is collecting food, blankets, toys, collars, leashes and anything else a pet may need.
The fundraiser is at the shelter from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on December 5.
While people are visiting the shelter and dropping off their supplies, Amaeli said she hopes they go inside and see if there are any animals that need a forever home.
"It makes me feel happy when the people are really connecting with the animals, and hoping, thinking of adopting," she said.
She said she wants to do this to make sure that all dogs and other animals can find a home like Asha.
"Some animals don't have it easy at all, and some are in alleys and some are in the woods, and I just think they all need a forever home and a good place," Amaeli said.
She said she wants to do this in the years to come.
