A Canadian County judge denied bond for Malcom Penney Tuesday morning.

He is the suspect in the deadly wrong-way crash that killed 19-year-old UCO student Marissa Murrow on the Kilpatrick Turnpike in October.

Murrow was a 2019 valedictorian at Mustang High School and was studying to become a special education major at the University of Central Oklahoma.

She was driving to her home in Mustang at the time of the head-on crash.

The OHP determined Penney was intoxicated – twice the legal limit – and was driving the wrong way on the turnpike when he crashed into her car.

According to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Murrow’s family, Penney had attended a wedding at a venue in North Edmond.

They claim he drank for at least 10 hours prior to getting behind the wheel.

The parents are suing Penney, his wife, and the event venue.

Penney is charged with second degree murder.

If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
