Bixby police are investigating after they said a driver hit a car with four teenagers inside who were on their way home from a football game.

Police are investigating to see if a deadly crash is linked to this hit-and-run that happened over the weekend.

The teens said they were only a few miles from home, when a driver ran through a red light at 101st and Mingo and slammed into their car before speeding off.

Saturday night was nearly perfect for high school seniors Lauren Kraft and Ana O'Connell. They experienced a Bixby football state championship win and a night with their best friends.

"It was the last game of high school, but it was a really good end to the season," Kraft said.

Kraft was driving O'Connell and their two other friends home from Edmond.

As they were crossing the intersection south on Mingo around midnight, Kraft said a driver didn't stop at the red light at 101st Street and slammed into her car, head-on.

"I only had three seconds to slam on my brakes before I hit him," Kraft said.

The girls are all okay with only scrapes and bruises, but Bixby police said the other driver did a U-turn and sped off heading west. Police said the driver was in a red sports car.

"I'm not gonna lie, it didn't set in until I was driving here," O'Connell said.

A few minutes later and just miles down the road, 29-year-old Johnathan Garcia slammed into a tree on 101st near Sheridan and Yale. Garcia died and witnesses said his Camaro exploded. Tulsa police investigating that crash and are looking into whether he was the driver involved in the hit and run.

As for O'Connell and Kraft, they're just thankful to be alive, and are holding their friends and family a little tighter tonight.

"I wish it hadn't happened like that, but I felt really loved," O'Connell said.

"People can't be replaced. We were so thankful everybody made it through it," said Kraft.

Bixby and Tulsa police are working together. If you have information about either crash, call Crimestoppers at 918-596-COPS.
