The deadline to file paperwork to run for school board is today. The Rogers County Election Board is seeing more interest in February’s election.
Secretary Julie Dermody said traditionally it is not uncommon to see incumbents run unopposed and lower voter turnout in these elections. Dermody said she has received lots of calls from people interested in this election.
Filing started Monday and the election board saw a steady number of people turn in paperwork, according to Dermody. She said in the past people would only trickle in through the filing period days.
Dermody said more than 14 spots just around Rogers County will be decided on in the next election. She emphasized school boards have a lot of say in how tax payer money is allocated, so it is important for everyone to pay attention to these races.
“Over 60 percent goes to the schools so they manage quite a bit of money,” said Dermody. “It’s good to have representation there.”
Anyone interested in running must have their paperwork completed and turned in by 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
