On Tuesday, Meals on Wheels is giving out its last Christmas meals to those in need. There are several pickup locations spread throughout Tulsa for anyone who would like to drive up and get a meal.
The organization is giving out up to 12,000 meals to families and seniors in need this Christmas week. They started their initiative on Saturday morning and have spent the past few days distributing food throughout Tulsa, but Tuesday is officially the last day to pick up.
This year’s meal includes items such as cranberries, green beans, and pecan pie.
Typically in years past, the Meals on Wheels mission was to give food to senior citizens in need, but this year, their Vice President of Community Relations Bob Beard said that with so many people out of work due to the pandemic, they knew they needed to expand their mission to the rest of the Tulsa community.
“It’s been a hard year for a lot of people, we are able to come and step in and be able to fill in the gaps with the food that’s needed for families in the area,” Beard said. “They still may not have a job yet or be getting unemployment checks so we are able to come help support that with a Christmas meal.”
Tuesday’s pickup locations are listed below.
