Caleb Nero was a star at Tulsa Memorial where he brought home a Class 5A state championship in 2017.
Now, he calls Fargo, North Dakota home. He is in town squaring off against Oral Roberts this weekend.
“On the court, I'm more vocal now,” Nero said. “I have gotten a lot stronger and I've gotten a lot faster."
There’s one problem: Nero said he hates the cold. Fargo regularly dips below the freezing mark, but there is one place Nero finds warmth: The gym.
"I don't go nowhere,” Nero said. “I don't go out, none of that. It’s just my apartment or I'm practicing."
His Oklahoma roots have not gone away. Nero keeps in touch with some of Green Country’s top prep stars like former Booker T. Washington players Bryce Thompson, now a Kansas Jayhawk, and Trey Phipps, who plays at the University of Oklahoma.
"During the summer, we play pickup games, you know,” Nero said. “We train together, all of that."
Nero does dream of playing professional basketball, but he is already making plans for a post-hoops career whenever that may be.
"When I'm done playing, I want to do something that feeds off of my basketball,” Nero said. “I don't know what that is yet, whether it’s a clothing line or something."
